Below are the 20 shortlisted nominee's selected as this year's finalists.
Based on their nomination and subsequent votes, we feel each is a Multiplier and want to thank them for their inspiring leadership style.
Business/Corporate: 7 Nominees
Zach Elkin
Director, Sales & General Management (Signature Kitchen Suite)
LG Electronics
"'Six degrees of Zach Elkin' is a common phrase that resonates with the Signature Kitchen Suite team at LG Electronics. Every team member is somehow six or fewer steps away from each other and connected to Zach. He is THE talent magnet as he has surrounded himself with all A-list players. He empowers his team to think outside of the box, and outside of typical, generic limits. Zach utilizes people to their fullest abilities and pushes people to be and do even greater than what they thought they could achieve. Zach's leadership skills, confidence, and strength maximize the talent around him and results in success all around."
Lisa Gevelber
VP, Marketing (Ads and Americas)
GOOGLE
"Lisa sees beyond the individual to recognize their possibility. She sees potential, not just a person, and she often recognizes it before the individual does. More than that - she finds the uniqueness of the person and helps them uncover how they can take their unique magic and make it shine, even if that doesn't seem directly aligned with current goals or vision. She also goes to great lengths to mentor and provide opportunity and stretch for her people over time. She sees the long game and invests in that in service of her people."
Carolyn Gilb
State Director of Arizona North
American Family Insurance
"Carolyn has been my Multiplier for many years. I worked very closely with her for three years until she encouraged me to take a promotion. She makes you feel that everything you say is important and asks questions to understand your point of view. At the same time, Carolyn shares her knowledge and helps you to consider a different standpoint. She knows how to lead a conversation to get to a result that makes everyone feel as they were a valuable member of the decision. She is very smart but makes those around her feel smarter and pushes them to achieve more."
Jon McNeill
President, Global Sales & Service
Tesla Motors
"Jon is an innately curious human being and a lifelong learner. He creates a learning environment, where he and his people are continually learning and growing. Jon is a Talent Magnet, bringing in incredibly smart people and letting them loose to do their best work. He doesn’t care about their age, background, what they've done before, or what area they're smart in. Jon is also a daily Challenger: very intense without making people tense. He stays at the highest level of the business but can also dive to the lowest level of the details in a collaborative, supportive way."
Tony Rodoni
EVP, Commercial Sales and Enablement
Salesforce
"Tony plays a significant role in our company’s overall vision and direction; yet, he always makes his teams feel as if they are the ones driving the company's success. Tony is a true Challenger, always asking big questions and serving up challenges, sometimes adding a little healthy debate on the side. He asks questions that make the organization stretch and take on the seemingly impossible, framing things in a way that make them possible. Tony has a strategic agenda, but not all of the answers. He may add his knowledge to the mix, but is comfortable asking questions and letting members of his organization figure it out."
Anthony Tuggle
VP, Sales
AT&T Entertainment Group - Sales & Service
"Anthony is an authentic and inspirational leader who invests in his team and sets them up for sustained success. He leads 30,000+ sales leaders and has masterfully built a culture that fosters a passion for winning. He models a “find a way” mindset in his approach to leadership and inspires his team to embrace the importance of agility. Despite the intensity and demands of the sales environment, he makes having fun a priority in his team’s pursuit of excellence. Anthony epitomizes the Investor and Liberator, setting expectations for nothing short of the best thinking and performance and holding his team accountable by giving them ownership for their results."
Kathy Ytzen
Head, Strategic Employee Apps
PayPal
"Kathy has a strong work ethic and keen insight, but more importantly, she is a great talent attractor. She has built a strong team with cutting-edge thinking that she leads through thought and action. She has transformed into a leader that creates an environment for driving great products and ambitious projects while creating a safety net where people want to perform at their best because of their inherent passion and the freedom and accountability given to them. Kathy is continually growing as a leader and genuinely demonstrating new and desirable leadership qualities. She is a true next-gen leader."
International Business: 5 Nominees
Paul Chong
President and Group CEO
Certis CISCO Security Pte Ltd
Singapore
"Paul has Multiplier attributes in his DNA. As our Group CEO, he provides us with conducive working environments, opportunities to magnify our competencies and unleash critical fresh ideas. He knows when to take a step back, does his part by not micromanaging and gives us space to contribute. He questions smartly, evaluates implementations by engaging all levels to hear feedback and celebrates success. The result of his multiplier effect is smarter and more capable leaders, invoking collective intelligence and courage to look beyond ourselves. He naturally and positively impacts us all!"
Raymund Chua
Head of Regional Centre, Singapore/Managing Director/Head of HR, Asia Pacific
Heraeus Asia Pacific Holding Pte Ltd/Heraeus Materials Singapore Ptd Ltd
Singapore
"Raymund was promoted from Head of HR, Asia Pacific to Managing Director and Head of Regional Centre Singapore. This is the first time a local HR practitioner has taken on two significant roles above his HR role. Raymund practices transparency and engages all the leaders in the organization to come together as one to identify the vision and mission to bring us forward. He stretches everyone in the team to their fullest, which has lead to astounding results. Raymund challenged us to save $1 million by October 2017. The entire Centre has never been as united, customer focused, and cost-conscious – and by August 2017, we had saved $1.9 million!"
Cecilia Collado
Solution Engine Regional Manager
GBM Corporation
Costa Rica
"Cecilia has the 'superpower' to identify talent at first sight, even if you are not aware that you have that talent. She is always finding ways to maximize your contributions – not just giving you the tools and resources you need, but also encouraging you to believe in yourself, giving you positive feedback, and making you feel that she trusts and values your work. Everyone asks to be part of Cecilia's team because she creates an environment where our talents shine. When you are around Cecilia you not only become a better professional, you also become a better person."
Ruth Valdés
Directora de Formación y Universidad Bancomer
BBVA Bancomer
Mexico
"Ruth is a genuinely inspiring leader and Multiplier. She is a great coach, providing specific and constructive feedback while balancing the positive and the opportunity areas. She empowers reports and peers for their growth, balancing between freedom and advice. Ruth trusts her team and always challenges us to learn as much as possible. She focuses on driving sustainable business results, helping the team to prioritize work and critical decisions. She builds trust through constant communication, encouraging an open dialogue with peers and reports. Lastly, Ruth is a great strategist: she has a clear vision of the results she wants to achieve and accurately involves the team in accomplishing them."
Jon Weening
Sales Manager / Partner
Weening Brothers Manufacturing
Canada
"Jon is a Challenger because he pushes his people to improve and get out of their comfort zone to grow. He also drives the organization to take on more challenging jobs. We are a small manufacturer of custom agricultural equipment. Recently we've taken projects that stretched our team – a customer who wanted his harvester to run from his wireless PlayStation controller so his wrists and fingers wouldn't be so sore from all the levers he had to operate; a bio-fuel company that was larger and more heavy duty than past projects. These projects would have seemed impossible, but because Jon pushed and challenged our teams, we found a way to get it done.”
Education/Non-Profit: 5 Nominees
Roger Chandler
VP, Student Success
Colorado Christian University
"Roger consistently 'calls out' the gifts and strengths of our members in front of our team. He encourages each member to dream big and to learn from both successes and failures. Team members know that they are supported to figure out their best way of creating and implementing ideas. We have many Vice Presidents at our university, and other colleagues on other teams frequently comment that they wish that they could work on Roger's team. He makes us believe in ourselves and in our ability to contribute greatly to our mission. He brings out the best in each of us."
Shalonda Foster
Assistant Principal
Western MS for the Arts
"Shalonda demonstrates Multiplier leadership through multiple events happening within our school. She is our leader for PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention Support) and challenges teachers every day to promote a safe culture and climate within the classrooms and school building. She brings a wealth of informative ideas to the team, challenging us to continue to develop safe schools. Her demeanor among her peers is supportive and open to learning and listening as we think outside the box towards a growth mindset and continue to work to provide a safe and caring school for all learners."
Denise Jones
CEO
The Resource Center
"The Resource Center is a not-for-profit providing services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities and other disabling conditions. Our new CEO, Denise Jones, came into an organization that had been on the brink of ruin and as a result, had lost many talented leaders. Since coming on board, Denise has created an environment where people are liberated to be creative and new ideas are safe. Additionally, she has torn down silos that had prevented teamwork and often led to frustration among our leaders."
Dr. Julie Mitchell
Superintendent
Rowland Unified School District
"Dr. Julie Mitchell is phenomenal in her ability to both attract talent and liberate all to take risks, learn from mistakes, innovate, and empower others. She brings in leaders from various districts, identifies their strengths and talents, and utilizes them across Rowland Unified School District. She has a deep talent and passion for empowering others to achieve to their fullest potential. She believes in people, inspires them to try new ideas, and supports them every step of the way. Through her natural, authentic Multiplier behaviors, Dr. Mitchell has led the district toward phenomenal growth that has led to innovative learning for all students."
Kelly Stuart
COO
Center for the Collaborative Classroom
"Kelly is an exceptional leader that inspires her staff. She diligently seeks out 'the best of the best,' and then pulls even more out of them than they dreamed existed. As we consider the significant work of "growing students as critical thinkers who learn from, care for, and respect one another,” Ms. Stuart is our constant mentor and thought partner. As we are stretching towards best practices in education, our research tells us to be right, true and GOOD for students, Kelly leads this charge with gentleness, diplomacy, humility, and love."
Military/Government: 3 Nominees
Kathleen McGee
Bureau Chief, Internet & Technology Bureau
Office of the New York Attorney General
"Kathleen gives space to her people to produce their best work. She also holds back to let others play big. In weekly meetings with her team, they are expected to discuss their cases and bring up issues for group discussion and input. When her team is struggling, Kathleen does not jump in and take over but instead gives them the support they need to move aggressively in an investigation. Despite being one of the smallest affirmative litigation bureaus in the office, hers is one of the most productive. Despite the workload, the staff has excellent morale, are always enthusiastic, and 100% feel that they are being utilized to their full potential."
Gene Richards III
Director, Aviation
City of Burlington (Vermont)
"In a relatively short time, Gene pulled the Aviation facility financially, functionally, and physically into a high performing international airport. Be warned: Gene would be quick to give direct credit to his employees. Gene surrounds himself with potential; employees he challenges for solutions, best practices, and great ideas. Most importantly, he listens. Gene makes decisions with the team collaboratively; this group-think style has resulted in high morale, unrivaled loyalty, and a strong and tightly knit group. Every team member is invested in the outcome. His skill in procuring the best ideas from those around him has translated into demonstrable unit success."
Dr. Eric Sholes
Project Manager/Systems Engineer
US Army
"Dr. Sholes spends every day working with team leads to develop them into the best leaders they can be. Because of this, he is continually losing his people to promotions and increased responsibility. I have colleagues across multiple organizations supporting our country's missile defense systems who were trained by Dr. Sholes. I know he is acutely aware of how much harder his life gets when those he trains are then chosen to lead a new team, but he keeps pushing forward. He could choose to focus on his day job (rocket science might be easier than employee development), but he comes in every day and spends hour after hour making others better."
